From the Pastor’s Pen…..
It was Meg’s Birthday June 18th, 1993 and a sunny day in Cope, SC. Meg and I were in our first
appointment stationed at the Edisto Charge, learning about cotton and moving from raising dogs
to raising kids. On this day, our first child, Luke, was born at Bamberg Hospital, delivered by
our friend, Ruth Tasgal, our Mennonite midwife. This was truly an amazing experience!
I remember our first Birthday Parties, our first Christmases, and Luke, our baby, being passed
around the churches from one loving set of hands to another, all in arms of Grace and Love.
It was great.
Soon, our Family began expanding to include another wonderful son, Seth, and a darling
daughter, Lydia. As our locations would change, our children were growing….in Spartanburg,
in Buford/Lancaster, and then in Red Bank. Thankfully, Luke has been able to attend
elementary, middle and high school all in one place. Though some of you have always known this
luxury, I find it hard to imagine. It wasn’t true for me.
Our son, Luke, has moved from T Ball to Skateboard Parks, from Soccer to driving his Truck, from
eating the child’s menu to eating us out of house and home. He has moved from learning
to play pool and foosball to sometimes winning in both against his old man. Our son has moved
from learning about God, as a child reading Noah’s Ark, to developing his own faith in Christ
and practicing faith and service to God and neighbor.
This June, nearly 18 years later, our firstborn will graduate from White Knoll High School, and
then will set off for USC. We love you Luke, we are proud of you, and will always have a place
for you in our hearts.
Love,
Dad
On May 1st, we will honor ALL of the graduates from RBUMC with a breakfast/brunch sponsored by
the Alpha Sunday School Class.
Holy Week at RBUMC~
This year our Worship Team will sponsor the Procession of the Palms with the children on
Palm Sunday, a full Seder Meal on Holy Thursday (you might remember that we did this three years
ago in the fellowship hall) and on Good Friday, the stripping of the church and a Tenebrae Service
that reflects on the way of the Cross and the Sacrifice of Christ through candles and scripture
reading. Easter will include a community sunrise service and breakfast by the UMM, 8:50am worship
with special Easter music and a message, and the 11am Full Cantata by the choir with a special
Easter message. Remember to invite a friend during this holy week and Easter, to Worship!
