New Year’s is most often thought of as a time to ponder fresh starts.
For the Freeman family it is also a time to look back. Each night as we eat our supper
we engage in “favorite part of the day.” Each of us is expected to share what we found to be
the best part of our day. This serves as a great conversation starter while giving us all a
chance to celebrate the best part of each other’s day. On New Year’s Eve we sit down to eat
and share our “favorite part of the year.”
So my question for all of us is, “What was your favorite part of the year?” It could
be a marriage in your family, a trip taken that you had always dreamed of, a graduation or
a new baby. The possibilities are endless and often times extremely hard to narrow down to
just one choice. Just give it a try.
Now it is possible that this wasn’t your best year. Perhaps you have less to celebrate
than you had hoped when the year began. Misfortune may have followed bad luck and left you
wanting for the year to come to an end. Your favorite part of the year will probably be the
end.
Whether you are celebrating a beginning or an end, try and find some time to celebrate.
In Christ,
Rev. W. Russell Freeman, Sr.
P.S. My favorite part of the year . . . moving to Red Bank UMC to serve as your pastor.
