The Scout leaders in the Troop and Pack are committed to helping all boys in the Red Bank area, interested in learning how to survive in the great outdoors, help our community, and develop character, by bringing a quality scouting program to the community.

Boy Scouts of America Troop 518 and Cub Scout Pack 518 have been in the Red Bank area for approximately 30 years.

All the Scouting groups at Red Bank UMC are active in the Lexington Christmas parades, Scouting for Food and Scout Sunday which is held the first or second Sunday of February each year.

Cub Scout Pack 518 has brought two new community service projects to our Scouting and church families. In 2007 the God and Country program was offered to all Scouts. 27 Cub Scouts and their siblings finished the program with awards given on Scout Sunday. In 2008 three Girl Scouts and 17 Cub Scouts completed the program. The Girl Scouts and the Cub Scout Pack are applying for the UMC Bishop’s Excellence in Scouting Award this year.

Cub Scout Pack 518 also initiated the Wreaths-Across-America campaign and sold 104 wreaths to place on veteran’s graves at the Florence National Cemetery and Troop 518 assisted in the wreath ceremony. This program’s mission is to remember, honor and teach.

In 2004 Cub Scout Pack 518 was looking for a new Charter organization and approached Red Bank United Methodist Church for a new home. This church stretched their arms wide opened and received the Pack, which at that time was 25 Cub members strong. Today, the Cub Pack maintains a roster of 107 Cub members.

This program is for boys 6 years old or 1st grade through 11 years old or 5th grade. We prepare them for Boy Scouts by teaching them outdoor skills, community service projects, sports, and games. Our motto is "Do Your Best" and "Character Counts".

Our major program points are: Camping twice a year, Scouting for Food (Do a Good Turn for America), Scout Sunday, Pinewood Derby races and Blue and Gold Banquet.

The Boy Scout program is for young men in the 6th grade or 12 year old. It promotes all aspects of the Scout Law: A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

In 2006, BSA Troop 518 was started up with 9 Scouts and today their roster boasts 19 Boy Scouts. In 2007, we held our first Eagle Court and J. P. McManus, a member of our church, became the first Eagle Scout from Troop 518 in many years and the first from Red Bank United Methodist Church. They are a very active Troop, camping once a month and achieving rank advancements.

Girl Scouts of America was added to the Scouting Ministries in the spring of 2008 and formally began holding meetings in August of 2008. Even though this is a new Scout group, they are active in the community and in their first few months gathered food and donated to LICS as well as going to a sock hop. Girl Scouts, of course, sell the best cookies in the world and our troops are doing a fine job promoting Girl Scouting in the Red Bank area.

In September 2008, the Administrative Council gave approval to also add BSA Venturing Crew 518 to all the Scouting groups at the Church. This is a branch of Boy Scouts of America that consists of high adventure events, is co-ed and the ages range from 14-20 years. Their first event was a District Camporee at BSA Camp Barstow, replete with climbing and rappelling, range shooting, cooking and all things Scouting. In January they went snow tubing in North Carolina and enjoyed the snow and fellowship. There are currently 19 young adults registered with the Crew.
